Changing to BRAE

 

CHANGE OF MAJOR POLICY & PROCEDURES 

Transferring into the BioResource & Agricultural Engineering major is NOT an automatic process.  Students desiring to change into the BioResource & Agricultural Engineering major must meet the minimum qualifications and follow the application procedures outlined below. Completion of the minimum qualifications does not guarantee admission into the program as admission is always granted on a space-available basis.

Application Procedure

  1. Make an appointment with the BRAE dept. head to discuss interest in the BRAE major and change-of-major plans. Turn in a written statement of intent and/or career objectives.
  2. At the end of each quarter all applicants for change of major will be evaluated and based on available space students will be notified to meet with the department head to develop an Individual Change of Major Agreement (ICMA).
  3. Students that successfully complete their ICMA will be admitted into the BRAE major. Successful completion of the ICMA can take up to two (2) quarters, during which the student is to complete required courses and obtain minimum GPA. (see below)
  4. Students who enter into an ICMA and do not successfully complete it will not be admitted into the BRAE major and are not eligible to request a new ICMA for the BRAE major.

Minimum Standards for transferring into BioResource & Agricultural Engineering

  1. Must have completed at least one quarter at Cal Poly.
  2. A freshman student who requests to change into the BRAE major during the student’s first three quarters of enrollment will be evaluated based on the student’s multiple criteria admission score (MCA) and course work taken at Cal Poly. The student’s MCA score must be at least the minimum for BRAE admission and a minimum GPA of 2.75 (term and Cal Poly) is required.
  3. A student that is a sophomore, junior, or senior must have completed the following:
    • A 2.75 GPA for the most recent term, 2.4 GPA cumulative at Cal Poly
    • Math 141 and Phys 131/141 completed with a grade of “C+” or better

Completion of the minimum qualifications does not guarantee admission into the program as admission is always granted on a space-available basis.
